Confessions of a Light Packer (Almost)
Packing for a weekend trip is always an adventure in itself, especially when you’re heading to California for a soccer tournament. This time, I was determined to keep it light. Armed with my trusty Calpak backpack and a plan to maximize every piece, I managed to pack what I thought was the perfect capsule wardrobe.
Here’s what made the cut:
It all fit snugly in my Calpak backpack, and I felt like a minimalist packing queen. But here’s where I have to admit… I cheated.

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

For my birthday, I had just received a pair of Taz Uggs, and let’s be honest: sipping wine around a fire sounded infinitely better with those cozy Uggs on my feet. So, yes, they came along for the ride (and no, they didn’t fit in the backpack). Instead, I had to tuck them into my son’s bag.

The weekend was as vibrant as my packing choices. A stop at a vintage shop in Palm Springs was a highlight. I found an 80’s midi dress that felt like a treasure and a 70’s leather bag that matched my daughter’s Frye boots so perfectly it was almost uncanny. Add in the joy of spending time with some amazing friends and corralling a group of crazy 17-year-old boys, and it was a trip to remember.
So, what’s my takeaway for next time? I’ll probably bring a bigger backpack. Packing light is satisfying, but having to sneak in extras isn’t quite as glamorous as it sounds. Cheers to embracing the journey and maybe bending the rules a little along the way!

This is the one missing item! I forgot it in the car in the rush to the airport! I was missed, but waiting for me when I got home!!!
